Using Destiny Search

(These instructions can be found at Eden Gardens Library on the Destiny page.)

 

1.      Ghosts, vampires, and werewolves: eerie tales from Transylvania

  1. Draw. Alien fantasies
  2. Learn to draw race cars
  3. Drawing and learning about dogs: using shapes and lines
  4. Bud, not Buddy
  5. The Watson’s go to Birmingham–1963 : a novel
  6. Eclipse
  7. Be careful what you wish for–
  8. The deadly experiments of Dr. Eeek       

 

This is a list of books from Eden Gardens Library.  Talk with your elbow partner about the books listed, what search topics would generate these books (other than the specific title).

 

Today you will create, and then describe your own list using at least three different searches.  You will report your work in a Word document which will be printed at the end of class.

 

  1. Open Word
  2. Type the heading:

a.       Name

b.      Room #

c.       Today’s date

d.      Computer #

  1. Save your document – save often as you work.  Ctrl+S
  2. Minimize your document
  3. Open “Destiny – Eden Gardens Elementary” from the favorites menu
  4. Click on the catalog tab.
  5. Search for a term that interests you – use any of the search choices: Keyword, Title, Author, Subject or Series
  6. Write about you search and results in your Word document.

Example:  I looked for dogs in title and found 21 books with the word dogs in the title.  Most of the books are available.

8.      Save again Ctrl+S

9.      Go back to Destiny Search

10.  Search for a new term using a different type of search.

11.  Write about your search and results in your Word document and save.

12.  Using a third term, do a third search.

13.  Write about your search in your document and save.

14.  Write a concluding sentence about your searches and what you learned. Save!

15.  We will print together at the end of class.

16.  Comment on Eden Gardens Library ( http://egsl.edublogs.org/ ) blog about your experience.  In the blog you are sharing your opinion, in your Word document you are reporting facts about your searches.
