ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY
Telecommunications – Use Contract for Students
Eden Gardens School
The Hayward Unified School District (HUSD) has provided Eden Gardens School with access to a telecommunications network that will enable students to access the vast resources available through the Internet. The purpose of providing access to the Internet and/or school Intranet is to support classroom instruction and research. These resources are to be used only in conjunction with teacher directed classroom studies and under the strict terms and conditions of this Use Policy.
Terms and Conditions
ACCEPTABLE USE:
Upon completion of an Internet training program on Internet Basics & Etiquette, students will be
permitted to access the internet. Use of the Internet must be in support of classroom activities and
consistent with the adopted curriculum and educational objectives of HUSD. Internet activities will be
planned in compliance with this policy. All online sessions will be carefully planned and monitored by
the classroom teacher/computer lab personnel.
Transmissions of or access to materials which are in violation of federal or state laws are prohibited. This
includes, but is not limited to: copyrighted materials, violent or obscene material, or material that
promotes the use of controlled substances, alcohol or tobacco. Use for commercial or personal
advertising and political lobbying is also prohibited. A copy of Legal Reference Codes can be found in
the school computer lab/Media Center which outlines these laws.
PRIVILEGES:
Access to the Internet and school intranet is a PRIVILEGE, not a right. This privilege may be revoked by
the Computer Lab Coordinator or site administrator and upon recommendation by the classroom teacher.
Inappropriate use will result in cancellation of access to the use of the Internet or Intranet. Reinstatement
will be the option of the Principal/Computer Lab Coordinator.
AGREEMENT:
I have read the terms and conditions of acceptable use of the online service provided by the HUSD at
Eden Gardens School. I am responsible and accountable for my actions and agree to
follow all policies. Although I understand that the District staff will monitor students’ access to Internet,
the District staff cannot completely control materials that students may view in violation of the Board
Policy and this Contract.
I have read and understand this document.
All students working on computers have a signed (student, parent/guardian, computer teacher and principal) copy of this document on file in the computer lab (room 31).
